Wichita, Kan. - Friends Falcons Men's Soccer hosted Tabor for senior day at Adair-Austin Stadium. This game wasn't in the prettiest of weather with there being rain concurrently throughout the game. The Falcons would end their home season with a 2-2 tie with the Bluejays.
The Falcons took control in the first half of this contest with the shots being seven to the Bluejays three. Jose Quiel would start the scoring in the 29th minute for the Falcons with a beautiful strike that the Tabor defense had no chance with. This is Quiel's fourth goal of the season as well as having five assists. Tabor answered right back with their leading goalscorer Pol Fernandez, scoring his seventh goal of the season in the 36th minute. This crucial KCAC matchup would go to half tied 1-1.
The second half would consist of lots of battle in the midfield between the Falcons and Bluejays at the start. The Bluejays took control offensively outshooting Friends eight to three in this final half. However the two goals scored by each team came in a very unorthodox way. Friends would break the tie in the 69th minute with an own goal off of a Bluejay defender. Jose Quiel who last kicked the ball, would be credited his second of the game. With five minutes left in the game it seemed the Falcons had Tabor under control defensively until a pooch kick that was misplayed by the Falcons defense resulted in an own goal off of the Friends defender.
Tabor tied the game up 2-2 and ended this game in one of the most gut wrenching and absurd ways for a game to end. Arturo Pombo-Palomero made three big saves tonight with one of them being a penalty kick that kept the Falcons in the lead. The Falcons Men's Soccer team (4-10-2, KCAC (4-5-2) will finish the rest of the season on the road and will travel to Ottawa on Wednesday October 29th to take on the Braves. Kick off is at 7:30 PM on AdventHealth Field.
