Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY - The No. 14-ranked Mid-America Christian University Evangels defeated the Friends University Falcons tonight (Sept. 17) 2-1 in a close match.
Jose Quiel had put the Falcons on top with a goal from
Nathanial Stephens in the 14th minute of the match.
MACU then tied the score on a goal from Enzo Nogue at the 18:30 mark before jumping on top 10 minutes later behind a score from Federico Palacios in what proved to be the final goal of the night.
Friends pushed well in the second half, but MACU's midfield helped control possession throughout.
Goalkeeper Alvaro Morera (MACU) made one crucial save, while
Arturo Pombo-Palomero (Friends) faced 17 shots, saving four.
The physicality of the match was evident through six yellow cards shown to Friends and four to MACU.
Both teams had great defensive performances but the Evangels' edge in shots on goal and corner kicks helped them secure the win.
The Falcons will next open KCAC action on the road Saturday evening (Sept. 21) at Tabor College, with kickoff set for 7:30 pm in Hillsboro, Kan.
