WICHITA, Kan. – The Ottawa University Braves scored six unanswered runs to come away with a 7-6 win over the (RV) Friends University Falcons in KCAC action today (Apr. 2) at West Side Athletic Field.
The Falcons are 24-13 overall and remain in fourth in the KCAC with a 15-10 conference record.
Things looked promising early on for the Falcons, as four walks, three hit by pitches and an RBI infield single from Spencer Davidson contributed to a 5-0 lead after one inning.
After an infield single by Marcellus Pearson put the Braves on the board in the fourth, Buster Hardman walked and scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning to promptly give the Falcons their five-run lead back.
It stayed that way until the Braves started to chip away with two runs in the seventh, starting with an RBI single from Nicholas Sizemore.
The Braves then scored in a variety of ways in the eighth, including a bases loaded hit by pitch, a fielder's choice and a bunt single before a sacrifice fly by Cole Broughton gave Ottawa its first lead.
The pitching combination of Flynn Ridley and Cameron Sistrunk then managed to keep the Falcons off the board in the eighth and ninth innings to allow the Braves to hold on for the win.
Austin Neeley started and was solid on the mound for the Falcons, surrendering just one run and striking out two in his first career start. Preston Lewis later pitched two innings and was charged with no runs and just one hit allowed.
Carlos Rodriguez went 2-of-5 with a double and Hardman scored two runs for the Falcons. Tyler Godfrey also doubled and drew three walks.
The Braves (20-16, 14-11 KCAC) got two RBIs each from Sizemore and Broughton.
Friends will next play a three-game series at York University, starting with a single tilt Friday afternoon (Apr. 5) at 3 pm.
