WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons opened a three-game series against No. 16-ranked Kansas Wesleyan University with a resounding 9-3 victory today (Mar. 1) at West Side Athletic Field.
After a solo homer by Kendall Foster and RBI single by Cruz Oxford gave the Coyotes an early 2-0 lead in the first, the Falcons struck for five in bottom of the first when Zeke Henson doubled home two runs to give Friends a 3-2 lead. An RBI groundout by Spencer Davidson and a sacrifice fly from Niquan Benjamin finished off the frame that was ignited by a single from Buster Hardman that chased home Caleb Coats.
Carlos Rodriguez added to the lead by tripling home Hardman in the second before scoring DJ Killion with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Nijai Armbrister then busted things wide open with a two-run single that brought home both Hardman and Sam Engberg to cap a three-run sixth inning.
Armbrister had three hits and Hardman scored three runs to pace the Falcon offensive attack.
Jarrett Gable went 3-of-4 with an RBI for KWU.
Daniel Jaime shook off the two-run first inning by the Coyotes to throw seven solid innings, allowing just one run past the first and striking out five to earn the win. Matthew Benton and Preston Lewis followed Jaime and tossed one scoreless inning apiece.
The Falcons and Coyotes will play a doubleheader tomorrow (Mar. 2) starting at noon to finish off the three-game set.
