WICHITA, Kan. – Friends fought to a 3-3 draw against York College on Saturday, with both teams exchanging goals in an end-to-end contest that kept the fans at Adair-Austin Stadium on the edge of their seats.
The Falcons took the lead in the 19th minute, courtesy of Jose Quiel, who scored his first goal of the match unassisted. York responded swiftly, with Diego Yanes equalizing in the 22nd minute. But Quiel wasn't finished. Just two minutes later, he found the back of the net again, putting Friends up 2-1 with another unassisted strike.
The Falcons extended their lead early in the second half when Eddy Rachedi struck in the 47th minute, making it 3-1. With a comfortable lead, Friends seemed on course for victory, but York's relentless pressure paid off in the final minutes. Mamadou Doukanse pulled one back for York in the 87th minute, assisted by Diego Yanes. Moments later, Yanes himself completed the comeback with his second goal of the match, bringing the score to 3-3 in the 88th minute. Despite several late chances, neither team could find a winner. Friends outshot York 16-7, with goalkeeper Stryker Kelly making three critical saves to preserve the draw.
Both teams were heavily penalized in the physical match, with multiple yellow cards shown, including a red card for Friends in the 42nd minute that left them a man down for much of the match.
The Falcons will continue conference play at home against Ottawa University on Wednesday, October 23!
