WICHITA, Kan. – If the Friends University Falcons were to win 1-0 on Senior Day, it was only appropriate that the senior that is the program's all-time modern-era leading goal scorer provided the winning margin, and that's precisely what Keily Larosee did in a victory over the York University Panthers today (Oct. 19) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
Through a tightly contested scoreless first half, Larosee blasted in her 54th career goal on a nice dish from Pilar Flores with 22:01 left in the match.
"Thought we played well for the majority of the game," said Friends women's soccer head coach Brent Hobson. "York sat in defensively a bit so we had to find a way to break them down. Not a real surprise Keily stepped up and put it in the back of the net, she's that type of player that can definitely go win us games. Pilar read it really well and set Keily up for a good opportunity."
The Falcons were outshot 7-4 overall, but the shots-on-goal were even at two apiece.
Nia Baker stopped both shots-on-goal she faced for the Falcons, with Harumi Cornejo making one save for York (6-5-3, 3-3-3 KCAC).
The Falcons currently sit in third place in the KCAC at 7-2 in the league with a 10-4 overall record.
Friends is right back at home Wednesday night (Oct. 23) for a 7:30 pm kickoff vs. Ottawa University.
"The senior class has been special, these girls came in after a touch COVID season and have helped win us a lot of games since then. Nia and Izzy have been phenomenal transfers that have come in and played really well for us. Just a special group of players, all six of them. I really appreciate their leadership and commitment to the team. But they aren't done, hopefully we can finish their senior year with some good results."
