Men’s Soccer Battles to 2-2 Draw with Southwestern

Winfield, Kan. – Friends secured a 2-2 draw against Southwestern College at Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Tuesday. The Falcons took an early lead and displayed resilience, but Southwestern's second-half response saw both sides walk away with a point through to the tie.

Friends opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Dylan Cedeno struck unassisted to give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. The early goal gave energy the Falcons, looking to take control. Stryker Kelly, once again rock solid in goal, made several key saves in the first half, finishing with six on the day.

Southwestern, however, would not go quietly. In the 52nd minute, Connor Inlow leveled the score at 1-1, with an assist from Marcos Benavidez. The Falcons responded quickly when Nathanael Stephens fired home in the 64th minute, putting Friends back on top.

With time winding down, Southwestern found an equalizer through Jack Bagley-Etheridge in the 68th minute, again unassisted, tying the game at 2-2.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but neither could break the deadlock. Southwestern's KJ Masso faced a barrage of shots, saving seven in total, while the Falcons outshot the Builders 14-12.

Friends committed 15 fouls compared to Southwestern's eight, reflecting the intensity in this conference game.

Despite the draw, Friends (4-6-3, 4-3-1 KCAC) continues to show resilience as they prepare for their next challenge at home against York on Saturday, October 19th!
