STERLING, Kan. – After a scoreless first half, the Falcons unleashed a flurry of goals in the second, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Sterling College on Saturday. The win marked the Falcons' fourth conference victory, with standout performances from Sebastian Ruiz and Trafford Finkeldei, who each netted their first career goals.
Sterling applied early pressure. Friends goalkeeper Stryker Kelly was a wall in goal, registering eight saves, keeping the game level as Friends, found their rhythm. After a tightly contested first half, Friends broke through in the second period, with an inspired offensive push. The breakthrough came as Sebastian Ruiz found the back of the net in the 72nd minute, his first career goal for the Falcons, igniting the Friends attack. Just moments later, Trafford Finkeldei capitalized on a well-placed assist to notch his own first goal at the 81-minute mark, sealing the Falcons' dominance.
Caique Pereira and Chase Channimraj rounded out the scoring with goals of their own, as Friends relentlessly pressed forward. Sterling's lone goal came in the 56th minute, but it wasn't enough to slow the Falcons' momentum. Friends ended the match with 16 shots, 11 of which were on target, compared to Sterling's 15 shots, of which only 10 tested the keeper.
The victory puts Friends in a strong position in the KCAC as they continue to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. The Falcon's will next face Southwestern in Winfield on October 16!
