WICHITA, Kan. – The Benedictine College Ravens built a quick lead and went on to a 2-1 win over the Friends University Falcons tonight (Sept. 2) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
Just 43 seconds into the match, Adem Aroua got free in the middle of the box and scored off a pass from Diego Acuna to put the Ravens in front.
It stayed 1-0 until that same duo of Aroua and Acuna teamed up again in the 67th minute for a 2-0 Benedictine lead.
The Falcons then got on the board when Sora Shibata converted on a penalty kick at the 75:09 mark to cut the Raven lead in half.
But the Ravens managed to stave off the Falcons over the final 15 minutes to hold on for the win.
The shot attempts were close, with the Ravens holding slim advantages of 17-14 in overall shots and 8-7 in shots-on-goal.
Felipe Garcia made six saves in the net for Friends (0-3), with Noah Reuscher also stopping six shots for Benedictine (2-0-1).
The Falcons will next turnaround and play at Briar Cliff (Iowa) University Monday morning (Sept. 4) at 10 am in Sioux City, Iowa.
