Sioux City, Iowa – The Friends University Falcons overcame a second-half deficit with two goals in the final 14 minutes to win 3-2 over the Briar Cliff University Chargers today (Sept. 4) in Sioux City, Iowa.
Trailing 2-1 following a goal by the Chargers' Hugo Mariage in the 57th minute, the Falcons pulled even on a score by Sora Shibata at the 76:45 mark.
Eddy Rachedi then produced one of the biggest goals of his career, hitting in the eventual game-winner for the Falcons with just 3:15 remaining in the match.
Nicolas Karlsen had put the Chargers in front early with a goal in the fifth minute of the first half, but Caique Pereira scored his second goal of the season 10 minutes into the second half to pull the Falcons even.
The shot count reflected the close terms the match was played under, with the Falcons holding slim edges in overall shots (16-15) and shots-on-goal (12-11). Shibata led everyone with seven shots and five shots-on-goal for Friends.
Just Guittin was solid in the net for the Falcons, stopping seven shots to give the Falcons a chance to come back for the victory. Hjalmar Nilsson was also stout with nine saves for the Chargers.
Next up for the Falcons is a home matchup against Oklahoma City University Saturday afternoon (Sept. 9) starting at 1 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
