WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons played the University of Saint Mary Spires to a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought defensive battle tonight (Sept. 30) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The tie extended the Falcons' unbeaten streak to four games and moves their overall record to 4-3-2 overall and keeps their conference mark unblemished at 3-0-1.
The Spires had allowed just eight goals all season heading into tonight, and look poised to record their fourth shutout of the season until Keily Larosee broke through by breaking up an impending goal kick and scoring the tying goal with just over four minutes remaining in the match.
It was a defensive slugfest much of the night, with the Spires finally snapping the scoreless tie with a goal by Grace Runyan at the 72:42 mark.
The Falcons had plenty of opportunities, outshooting the Spires 17-6 overall and 8-4 on-goal, led by four shots from Larosee.
Morgan Wilkinson made three saves for Friends and Marisol Vargas stopped six shots for Saint Mary.
Next up for the Falcons is a noon matchup at McPherson College on Saturday (Sept. 30) in McPherson, Kan.
