San Marcos, Calif. – The Friends University Falcons were tripped up in both matches today (Sept. 1) in action at the USK Labor Day Tourney in San Marcos, Calif.
The Falcons started the day with a 3-0 loss to the Hope International University Royals by scores of 25-19, 25-17 & 25-15.
McKenzi Shurley led the Falcons with eight kills and Zoey Tauanu'u had 12 assists, with Antonia Perier and Greely Munroe each recording 10 digs for Friends.
The Falcons then wrapped up the night with another 3-0 setback to the tourney host University of Saint Katherine Firebirds. The final scores of that match were 25-15, 25-14 & 25-18.
Against the Firebirds, the Falcons lost the first two sets and got down 19-9 in the third, but showed fight with five straight points before USK pulled out the third set to finish the match.
Payton Robbins had a team-high four kills for the Falcons and Tauanu'u had seven assists. Friends also got six digs apiece from Perier, Munroe and Gabrielle Coombs.
The Falcons will wrap up their California trip tomorrow with matches at 10 am vs. Ottawa University (Ariz.) and Vanguard University (Calif.) at 2 pm.
