WICHITA, Kan. – In the No. 4 vs. 5 seed KCAC quarterfinal matchup, it was the fourth-seeded Friends University Falcons overwhelmingly advancing on with a 4-0 victory over the fifth-seeded Bethel College Threshers tonight (Nov. 3) at Adair-Austin Stadium.

The Falcons spread out the offensive attack, getting goals from four different players in the victory.

"It was an amazing group win," said Friends men's soccer head coach Bryan Perez. "So proud of how we carried ourselves, the boys really wanted it."

It was scoreless through much of the first half until Sora Shibata, the Falcons' leading scorer and first-team All-KCAC selection, scored his 14th goal of the season from Caique Pereira in the 42nd minute.

Then in the early stages of the second half, the Falcons hit the Threshers with a three goal barrage within a seven minute stretch.

The flurry started with the Falcons' other first-team all-conference performer, Yushin Kitada converting a penalty kick at the 52:33 mark for a 2-0 lead.

Jose Lapentty then headed in a goal off a perfect cross from Futa Kubo less than four minutes later to stretch the lead to a three-goal cushion.

Putting a bow on the victory was Ryuji Kubota scoring from Shibata at the 59:54 mark.

The Falcon defense was suffocating from the outset, holding the Threshers without a shot-on-goal while recording 11 for themselves. Friends also outshot Bethel 19-3 overall, led by four shots and three shots-on-goal from Shibata.

Next up for the Falcons will be a showdown in the KCAC postseason tournament semifinals on Wednesday (Nov. 8) vs. top-seeded and No. 8-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The match will start at noon at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita.
