Men’s Soccer Falcons use offensive flurry to win 3-0 over Sterling

WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons hit the Sterling College Warriors with an early offensive barrage and carried that through to a 3-0 victory tonight (Oct. 7) in KCAC action at Adair-Austin Stadium.

The win moves the Falcons into the fifth spot in the KCAC at 3-1-3 in the league, with a 4-4-4 overall mark.

Friends put pressure on Sterling early and often and at the 8:53 mark of the first half, Caique Pereira rebounded his own missed shot and scored the first goal of the match to give the Falcons a lead they would add on to throughout the night.

Sora Shibata then headed in his team-leading ninth goal of 2023 off a corner kick from Futa Kubo in the 19th minute to push the Falcon lead to two goals.

That's where things continued to stand until Pereira assisted on a goal by Jose Lapentty at the 74:20 mark to seal the victory for the Falcons.

"Our desire to win was there tonight," said Friends men's soccer head coach Bryan Perez. "We were smart and composed with the ball and that allowed us to play the best soccer we can play."

The Falcons were in control from the outset and outshot the Warriors 21-8 overall, with a 9-2 edge on-goal.

Shibata and Lapentty each had six shots to lead Friends, with Pereira launching five shots and a match-high four on-goal.

Felipe Garcia made two saves in the net for the Falcons, while Marcelo Fuentes stopped six shots for Sterling (8-4-1, 5-2-1 KCAC).
