Men’s Soccer Falcons’ late first half flurry keys 5-2 win over Southwestern

WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons exploded for three goals late in the first half on the way to a 5-2 victory over the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in a KCAC matchup tonight (Oct. 11) at Adair-Austin Stadium.

The win moves the Falcons into the fourth spot in the KCAC at 4-1-3 along with a 5-4-4 overall mark.

With the score knotted at 1-1, Jose Lapentty was in the right spot to put in a deflected shot by Caique Pereira to give the Falcons the lead in the 38th minute of the match.

Sora Shibata then extended the lead on a successful penalty kick attempt for his team-high 10th goal of the season at the 42:14 mark before Christopher Gaytan got free for his first career goal just 27 seconds later to suddenly give the Falcons a commanding three-goal lead at halftime.

Alvaro Quezada then fired in a shot from 30 yards away at the 58:05 mark to effectively put it away for the Falcons.

A goal by Alejandro Ramos with just 22 seconds left in the match closed out the scoring.

In just the fourth minute of the contest, Pereira scored to quickly put the Falcons in front off an assist from Cory Gleason.

Mamadou Diarra then pulled the Builders even at the 14:19 mark.

Friends outshot Southwestern 16-12 overall and 10-6 on-goal, led by four shots and three shots-on-goal from both Pereira and Shibata.

Felipe Garcia recorded four saves for the Falcons, while KJ Masso stopped five shots for the Builders (5-7, 3-5 KCAC) before giving way to Greyson Blair for the final 26 minutes.

Next up for the Falcons is a matchup at York University Saturday (Oct. 14) at 1 pm in York, Neb.
