Men’s Soccer Falcons clinch fourth seed with 4-0 rout of Bethany

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Friends University Men's Soccer Falcons locked in the fourth spot in the upcoming KCAC postseason tournament by cruising to a 4-0 victory over the Bethany College Swedes in the regular season finale tonight (Oct. 30) in Lindsborg, Kan.

The Falcons enter the postseason with a 7-2-4 mark in the KCAC with an 8-5-5 overall record.

"It was a great win," said Friends men's soccer head coach Bryan Perez. "We needed the win to secure the fourth seed but above all we need some good rhythm going into the playoffs."

Yushin Kitada got the Falcons on the board with a successful penalty kick in the 20th minute for his first goal of the season.

Sora Shibata then put in his team-leading 13th goal just six minutes later for a two-goal lead.

A goal by Caique Pereira at the 55:13 mark for Friends broke the game open before Eddy Rachedi scored with just 5:27 remaining to put the exclamation point on the victory.

The score reflected just how lopsided the match was, as the Falcons outshot the Swedes by a whopping 34-2 overall and 10-2 on-goal.

Just Guiting stopped both shots-on-goal he faced for the Falcons, while Jake Goldstein made six saves with four goals allowed for Bethany (0-17, 0-13 KCAC) in his more than 87 minutes in the net.

The Falcons will host a KCAC quarterfinal match Friday evening (Nov. 3) starting at 6 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium, with the opponent officially determined later tonight or tomorrow morning.
