Men’s Basketball Falcons place five players in double-figures in season-opening setback at CMU

Fayette, Mo. – The Friends University Falcons had a balanced scoring attack in their first outing of the 2023-24 season, but fell 88-73 at the Central Methodist University Eagles tonight in Fayette, Mo.

The Eagles took control early as Everett Stubblefield scored the first five points of the game.

Leading 13-9, it was again Stubblefield scoring to cap a 9-0 spurt that stretched the lead up to 13 points.

CMU led 43-27 at the break and maintained at least a double-figure lead throughout the second half, including building the lead as high as 22 on two occasions.

In his first career game, Steele Chapman scored a team-leading 13 points along with six rebounds. KJ Spiller, another newcomer to the program, scored 11 points.  Drew Patterson, Tim Barbieri and Al Emerllahu each added 10 points, with Christian Williams also pulling down six boards for the Falcons (0-1).

Stubblefield and TreVon Smith led the Eagles (1-0) with 15 points, with Smith also producing four assists and three steals. Peter Turay grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for CMU.

Next up for the Falcons is their home opener one week from tonight (Nov. 2) vs. Calvary Baptist University.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm inside the Garvey Center.
