WICHITA, Kan. – In a match at Striker Indoor Field due to heavy rain in the Wichita area, Keily Larosee scored her 11th and 12th goals of the season to lift the Friends University Falcons to a 3-0 victory today (Oct. 25) over the Avila University Eagles.
The Falcons are still right behind Oklahoma Wesleyan University for the top spot in the KCAC at 9-0-3 in the league and 10-3-4 overall. OKWU currently sits at 10-0-2 in the conference. The 10 victories give the Falcons double-digit wins for the third straight season.
Following a scoreless opening half, the Falcons found their footing in the second as Larosee scored her two goals in a five minute span, starting on an assist from Hailey Stiverson at the 62:54 mark.
"Defensively I thought we were really good, kept the ball on our half for a lot of the game," said Friends women's soccer head coach Brent Hobson. "Bayli (Waters) stepped up and created the first goal by winning the ball back."
Larosee then put in a successful penalty kick in the 67th minute before Hanon Nakagami scored from Reyna Meraz to put an exclamation point on the win with just 1:24 left in the match.
"Thought a few subs came in and impacted the game well," said Hobson. "Elisa (Murrietta) and Reyna both had good games."
The Falcons controlled the action from the outset, outshooting the Eagles 7-1 in the opening half and 19-7 overall, with a 12-5 edge in shots-on-goal. All five of Larosee's match-high five shot attempts were on-goal.
Nia Baker, the KCAC and NAIA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, continued her solid play with five more stops that included a kick save in the first half to keep the Eagles off the board. Olivia Seston was also solid in the net for Avila (5-11-1, 5-6-1 KCAC) with eight saves to keep the match close much of the way.
Next up for the Falcons is the regular season finale Saturday evening (Oct. 28) at 5 pm in Lindsborg, Kan.
