Lindsborg, Kan. – The 2023 version of the Friends University Falcons etched their name forever in the history book with a 1-0 victory in the regular season finale tonight (Oct. 30) at the Bethany College Swedes to clinch the program's first-ever unbeaten KCAC season in the modern-era (since 2004).
The Falcons will enter the postseason at 10-0-3 in the KCAC and 11-3-4 overall.
"It's a huge accomplishment at the collegiate level to go undefeated," said Friends women's soccer head coach Brent Hobson. "I congratulated our players right after the game. This has been one of the most balanced teams I've coached here at Friends."
Fittingly, it was leading scorer and three-time KCAC Offensive Player of the Week Keily Larosee scoring the goal that provided the victory margin for the Falcons.
Larosee's game-winning goal came on an assist from Gianna Honda in the 20th minute of the match.
The Falcons were in control throughout, outshooting the Swedes 10-4 overall and 4-1 on-goal.
Nia Baker has been solid in the net all season and stopped the only shot-on-goal she faced tonight. Molly Atchley made three saves for Bethany (1-15-1, 1-12 KCAC).
The Falcons will enter this year's KCAC tourney as the second seed and will host a quarterfinal game Saturday night (Nov. 4) at 7 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium. Opponent will be officially determined later tonight or tomorrow (Oct. 31).
"Our coaching staff has really enjoyed this group of players," said Hobson. "They've bought in from the first day. We're ready for postseason play on Saturday."
