Second half goal by Flores keeps Women’s Soccer Falcons unbeaten in KCAC

York, Neb. – The Friends University Falcons got a goal from Pilar Flores in the second half to snap a scoreless tie and win 1-0 over the York University Panthers today (Oct. 14) in York, Neb.

With the win, the Falcons are still unbeaten in the KCAC at 7-0-2, just behind Oklahoma Wesleyan University, who is 8-0-2 in the league. Friends is 7-1-2 in its last 10 matches and is now 8-3-3 overall.

Following a scoreless first half, Flores scored what proved to be the only goal of the game off an assist from Kylie Lewis at the 56:24 mark.

"Pilar came off the first half and told me she wanted to score a goal," said Friends women's soccer Brent Hobson. "That was one of her best performances this season."

Despite the close 1-0 finish, the Falcons were in control throughout, outshooting the Panthers 15-5 overall and 10-3 on-goal. Keily Larosee and Lauryn Erickson each had three shots and two shots-on-goal to lead the Falcon offensive attack.

Morgan Wilkinson started at goalkeeper and played the opening half for the Falcons, with one save. Nia Baker then came on and stopped two shots in the second half to pick up the win. Harumi Cornejo recorded eight saves for York (4-7-2, 3-4-1 KCAC).

"It was another good performance by our back line and both goalkeepers," said Hobson. "All of our center mids (Pilar, Hailey, Lauryn, Gianna & Elisa) played very well today. Thought we controlled the game from start to finish."

The Falcons will next be at Ottawa University Wednesday evening (Oct. 18) at 5 pm, followed by a Senior Night matchup at home Saturday (Oct. 21) vs. Kansas Wesleyan University, also at 5 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
