York, Neb. – The Friends University Falcons got a late goal from Sora Shibata to escape with a 1-0 victory at the York University Panthers today (Oct. 14) in York, Neb.
The win moves the Falcons into the fourth spot in the KCAC at 5-1-3, with an overall mark of 6-4-4.
Things stayed scoreless throughout the opening half and most of the second half until Sora Shibata, with things appearing heading for a 0-0 draw, broke through with his team-leading 11th goal of the season on a feed from Caique Pereira just past the 87 minute mark.
"Always tough playing York, especially on their field," said Friends men's soccer head coach Bryan Perez. "However the guys fought for 90 minutes and were able to get a well-deserved win. Very proud of our boys."
The Falcons outshot the Panthers 8-2, with the defense standing tall and holding the Panthers without a shot-on-goal.
Shibata fueled the Falcons with four shots and three on-goal, while both of Pereira's shot attempts were on-goal.
Felipe Garcia played the full 90 minutes in the net for the Falcons and Breno Prado stopped five shots for York (2-11-1, 2-6 KCAC).
The Falcons will next be at Ottawa University on Wednesday night (Oct. 18) at 7:30 pm before returning to Wichita for Senior Night on Oct. 21 vs. Kansas Wesleyan University, with that match also slated for 7:30 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
