WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons pulled out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Southwestern College Builders tonight (Oct. 11) in an important KCAC matchup at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The win keeps the Falcons unbeaten in the KCAC at 6-0-2 and improves their overall mark to 7-3-3.
"I thought it was a scrappy game," said Friends women's soccer head coach Brent Hobson. "With the windy conditions it was a little tough to control the ball. These games are huge in conference though, just find a way to get a result and move on."
Following a closely contested first half that saw the Builders outshoot the Falcons 6-5, Keily Larosee wasted no time in connecting on her team-leading ninth goal of the season via Hanon Nakagami's team-high fourth assist less than three minutes into the second half.
The Builders threatened the remainder of the match but were turned away on each occasion, with the final major opportunity coming when a shot from Nicole McDonald was hauled in by Falcon goalkeeper Morgan Wilkinson.
Friends was outshot 10-9 overall, but held a 9-6 edge in shots-on-goal.
Larosee had team-highs of four shots and four shots-on-goal, with Bryanna Kuhn pacing the Builders with three shots and three on-goal.
Wilkinson finished with six saves for the Falcons, with Mallorie Lund making seven stops for Southwestern (5-4-2, 4-3-1 KCAC).
"Another shutout from the back line who I thought played very well as a group," said Hobson.
Next up for the Falcons is a matchup at York University Saturday (Oct. 14) at 3:30 pm in York, Neb.
