J. Matt Kalb begins his first season as the Friends University offensive coordinator
in 2017.

Kalb comes to Friends from McMurry University (Texas) where he has been the offensive coordinator since 2014. He has also spent time at Aurora University, Loras College, Joliet Junior College and Valparaiso University. Kalb played wide receiver in college at both Kentucky and Alabama.

Kalb brings 22 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Falcons, including 12 as an offensive coordinator.
“I couldn’t be more excited to work with Coach Meneley and help him achieve his vision for the Falcon Football program,” said Kalb. “The people at Friends, along with the university’s values and traditions, made this an easy decision and I can’t wait to get started.”

While at McMurry, Kalb coached receiver Jeret Smith who broke the program’s career receiving record and went on to sign a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Kalb recruited the 2008 Iowa Conference Player of the Year and the last two All-Americans at Loras, as well as the school’s all-time leader in three passing categories.

Kalb has his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kentucky and his Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from
Valparaiso University.
