Brian Byers is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Friends University Falcons and will primarily work with the offensive line.
Byers is certainly no stranger to the Falcon program, as he was the head coach at Friends from 1988-97.
At Friends, Byers was a two-time KCAC Coach of the Year while leading the Falcons to an NAIA national playoff appearance. He also coached 19 All-America performers and six players who went on to play professional football.
Prior to this most recent stint at Friends, Byers spent two seasons at Bethel College, where he was the co-offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and strength coach.
Before that, Byers was the head football coach at Wichita East High Schoo for nine seasons.
From 1984-88, Byers served as the head coach for the Wichita South high school football program.
Byer's coaching career also includes stops as the defensive coordinator at his alma mater Pittsburg State University, Independence Community College and Baker University, along with serving as an assistant coach at Emporia State University.
Byers also enjoyed a decorated playing career at PSU, earning two All-America honors while being inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.
