WICHITA, Kan. — The Friends University Falcons fell in three sets tonight (Sept. 4) to the Benedictine College Ravens inside the Garvey Center.
Benedictine took the opening set 25-11.
Gabbie Taylor led Friends with three kills, while Stefania Scomazzon had five kills for Benedictine and Ava Penuel served three aces.
Friends dropped the second set 25-15 as Benedictine finished with a 19-9 advantage in kills, led by Barbara Terra with six and Scomazzon with five. Taylor recorded five of Friends' nine kills, and
Bailey Wilson added an ace, but Benedictine used four straight kills to move from a 7-7 tie to an 11-7 lead.
Friends cut a 12-7 deficit to 12-10 in the third set, with a
Sofia Mekelburg kill between two Benedictine attack errors. Benedictine finished with a 16-10 edge in kills, including eight from Barbara Terra, and took the set 25-16 to finish off the match.
Taylor led Friends with 12 kills and Mekelburg finished with 18 assists, four kills and five digs. Wilson recorded a team-high 12 digs and served two aces.
Terra recorded 16 kills to lead the Ravens. Scomazzon added 14 kills, while Wren VanCleave posted 33 assists with 13 digs. Penuel collected 13 digs and served three aces.
The Falcons will next turnaround and host Missouri Valley College and Randall University for a tri-match tomorrow (Sept. 5). Friends will face Missouri Valley at 11 am and then Randall at 3 pm.
