ATCHISON, Kan. — Friends University Women's Soccer suffered a 2-1 loss to the Benedictine College Ravens on the road Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 2).
The Falcons opened the scoring within the first five minutes of the match, as
Kieley Aranda found the back of the net off an assist from
Francesca Jones. Benedictine responded with two goals later in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Friends held the Ravens scoreless throughout the second half despite Benedictine recording 11 shots after halftime and 26 for the match. Falcons goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Martinez kept Friends within striking distance, recording 15 saves over 90 minutes, including eight in the second half.
The Falcons finished with five shots and two on goal but were unable to find the equalizer in the second half.
Aranda scored on her lone shot of the match, while Jones added one shot.
Anahi Ibarra-Arevalo led the Falcons with two shots, including one on goal.
With the loss, Friends falls to 0-2-1 on the season.
The Falcons will continue their road stint this Saturday (Sept. 5) at Riverside Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., taking on Grand View University. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
