SALINA, Kan. - Friends University Women's Soccer took down the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes, 2-1, today in Salina to earn their second-straight conference win and extend their win streak to four.
The Coyotes struck first with their lone goal of the game in the first half. The Falcons quickly responded, with
Paige Putter finding the back of the net off a Friends corner kick to even the match. Kansas Wesleyan had an opportunity to regain the lead on a penalty kick, but was unable to convert, as the teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
Friends and Kansas Wesleyan battled defensively in the second half until the Falcons found an opening.
Anahi Ibarra-Arevalo launched a shot from the far left side that found the back of the net, giving Friends a 2-1 lead with 34 minutes remaining in the second half.
The Falcons held off the Coyotes' attempts to equalize and secured the 2-1 road victory.
Ibarra-Arevalo scored the game-winning goal and led Friends with three shots, including two on goal. Putter added a goal on her only shot attempt.
Kieley Aranda and
Aurora Delgado each recorded a shot, with Aranda's coming on goal. Camilla Apple was in goal for the Falcons and recorded three saves.
With the win, the Falcons move to 4-2-1 overall and 2-0 in KCAC play. Friends will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 26, to take on the Bethany College Swedes. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. in Lindsborg, Kan.
