Softball Falcons charge back in second game to salvage split with Threshers

North Newton, Kan. -- The Friends University Falcons rallied for a 7-5 win in the nightcap to salvage a split in a KCAC series today (Apr. 7) with the Bethel College Threshers in North Newton, Kan. Bethel took game one 2-0.

After trailing early in the second game, Friends tied the game in the fourth inning when Regan Witt singled home Izzy Jones and then scored on Cambell Riordan's double to tie the score 3-3.

After an RBI double by Jones plated Ezra Arrendondo in the top of the fifth, Bethel regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double by Madison Gonzales.

But Jones struck again for the Falcons in the sixth and doubled in both Arredondo and Keara Cunningham to put Friends back in front by a run. Tamara Lozoya then scored on a bases-loaded walk to Witt to push the lead to 7-5.

Ainsley McGill blanked the Threshers in the bottom of the seventh to finish out her scoreless appearance and pick up the win. McGill came on for the final 2.1 innings in relief of Arredondo, who went 4.2 innings with five runs allowed.

Arredondo had three hits in the second game for the Falcons (20-17, 10-8 KCAC), while Riordan, Jones and Cadence Magana each had a pair of hits.

In the second inning of the opener, Bethel took the lead when Kailey Sandoval walked, stole second and scored on a double by Alohilana Mundon. Mundon then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaylee Linnebur to make it 2–0.

That was all the run support that Emma Killingsworth would need, as she struck out 13 and walked just one in seven shutout innings for the Threshers (11-17, 7-11 KCAC).

Riordan had a double for one of the Falcons' two hits in the game. Jenna Ormiston started in the circle and allowed just the two runs in six innings.

The Falcons will next host Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday (Apr. 11) starting at 1 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
