Ormiston's no-hitter fuels Softball Falcons sweep at York

York, Neb. -- Jenna Ormiston produced a no-hitter to highlight the Friends University Falcons sweep of the York University Panthers today (Apr. 17) in York, Neb. by scores of 5-0 and 5-4 to extend their winning streak to seven games. The Falcons are now 26-17 overall and remain in fifth place at 16-8 in the KCAC, just percentage points behind Avila University for the fourth spot.

Ormiston was outstanding from the start, striking out two batters and issuing just a two-out walk in the third to produce the program's first no-hitter since Riley Wertz's perfect game last year (Mar. 22, 2025) and the team's first seven inning no-hitter since Laila Spracklen in 2023.

She pitched with a lead throughout as the Falcons took an early lead in the first inning.

Cadence Magana singled through the left side, and after Ezra Arredondo walked, Tamara Lozoya hit a single to left center. Consecutive wild pitches then scored both Magana and Arrendondo to make it 2-0.

The fifth inning saw Friends add to its lead. Cambell Riordan singled and advanced to third on a single by Magana. Arredondo then delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Riordan to score and increasing the lead to 3–0 after five innings.

In the seventh inning, Friends extended its lead further. Mekenzi Humphers, pinch running for Magana, scored on a double down the right field line by Arredondo. Arredondo then advanced to third on a fly out and scored on another wild pitch.

Arredondo scored two runs and drove in two runs while Lozoya and Magana each recorded two hits in the Falcons' opening game victory.

Lexi Knapp struck out six and walked three with five runs allowed over seven innings for the Panthers.

The Falcons once again started the nightcap strong, taking the lead on a two-run double by Lozoya and a sacrifice fly from Regan Witt in the top of the first.

After Bethany Wright singled in two runs for the Panthers in the bottom of the first to make it a one-run game, Riordan hit an RBI single in the fourth to score Madison Nightengale to push the Falcon lead to 4-2.

The Panthers tied the score on a two-run single by Moriah Hoshowski in the bottom of the fourth, but the Falcons regained the lead when Witt reached on a fielder-s choice in the fifth and Arredondo scored on a throwing error.

Ainsley McGill made the one-run lead hold up with three scoreless innings to pick up the save. Arredondo started and lasted four innings with four runs allowed to earn the win.

The Falcons got two hits apiece in the second game from Lozoya, Riordan and Izzy Jones

Hoshowski also had a pair of hits for the Panthers (15-29, 10-14 KCAC) in the nightcap.

Friends will wrap up the regular season at home on Tuesday (Apr. 21) at 3 pm vs. McPherson College at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
