Friends takes first game of series against McPherson 5-4

Wichita, Kan. - Friends baseball took on the McPherson Bulldogs to open up a three game series which will be completed over the weekend. The Falcons looked to build a three game win streak in this KCAC conference matchup. 

 

McPherson got on the board early with an RBI double in the 2nd inning to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. 

 

Friends answered back with a three run 3rd inning which started with an Elijah Morales walk to score Elijah Joseph. Bernie Socarras would follow up with an RBI single to score Miles Hartman. Socarras was later caught stealing, however Camden Miller would score on the play. Friends would lead 3-0 after three innings. 

 

The Bulldogs would take back the lead with runs in the 4th and 5th innings. With an RBI single and two costly errors from the Falcons allowed McPherson to take a 4-3 lead. In the 5th Friends would tie the game 4-4 with Camden Miller scoring once again from a double play. 

 

In the 7th Hudson Sharp would come up clutch with an RBI to score Camden Miller, Miller's 3rd run of the day and the Falcons would take a 5-4 lead. Both teams would blank each other in the 8th.

 

Preston Lewis, who was very reliable in his last appearance against Hastings, came back in for a save opportunity in the 9th. Lewis would let up a one out walk in the 9th. Lewis set his defense up for a game ending 6-4-3 double play to end the game and give the Falcons a 5-4 win. In his 7th appearance of the season Lewis would grab his 2nd save of the season, cementing himself as the closer for the Falcons.

 

Raleigh Clark was the starter for the Falcons today and he would throw five innings giving up three earned runs and also striking out three. Cameron Chase would get credit for the win for the Falcons as he shoved three innings while striking out two and not giving up an earned run. 

 

Falcons will bring their record to (10-11) and their conference record to (5-3). They will be back at it again tomorrow (Mar. 7) for a double header against McPherson starting at noon.
