Baseball completes comeback with walk-off win over Tabor

Wichita, Kan. - Friends baseball kicked off game one of a pivotal KCAC series against the Tabor Bluejays. The Falcons had a comeback walk-off victory in the 9th inning winning the game 7-6. The Falcons small ball would jolt them in front for a big win Friday afternoon (Mar. 27).

The Falcons would get off to an early start with a couple of singles from Camden Miller and Bernie Socarras. Elijah Morales would drive in Miller with a sacrifice fly to give Friends the 1-0 lead after one inning of play.

Tabor answered back with a four run inning with a bunch of singles in the top of the 2nd. The Bluejays would hit six singles in this inning, just putting the ball in play where the Falcons defense could not make a play. The four run inning would put Tabor up 4-1.

The Falcons drove in another run in the bottom of the 2nd. Miles Hartman would hit a sac fly to score Holden Sabor to cut the Tabor lead down to two. Innings three and four would both be zeros for each team.

Tabor got back on the scoreboard with more singles, with two runners on, Jose Narvaez would drive in two runs with a single to put the Bluejays back on top 6-2.

In the bottom of the 6th the Falcons would chip away at the lead once again. Due to an error from a Tabor fielder, Friends would capitalize and drive in another run to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Bluejays. Holden Sabor would hit a sacrifice fly to score Elijah Morales. The 3rd sac fly for the Falcons in this game would be their only way of getting runs on the board so far.

The important bottom half of the 8th for the Falcons would tie the ball game. Friends would score three runs, Hudson Sharp started the rally with an RBI single to score Bernie Socarras. Tabor would go into the bullpen for the first time in this game. The first batter the Bluejays reliever would face was Holden Sabor, Sabor would hit a drive into right field that carried over the fence tying the ball game 6-6.

Friends looked to shut down the Bluejays in the top half of the 9th with an appearance by Hoyt Roff, who would get credit for the win with his performance. Roff would walk a batter but then set up himself to complete a 1-6-3 double play to set the Falcons up for a walk-off.

Friends would look to complete the comeback with Drew Lykes pinch hitting to lead off the 9th. Lykes would hit a double to put the Falcons in a very favorable spot to complete the comeback. Friends would pinch run for Lykes bringing in the speedy Xavier Champ. Camden Miller went up to bat for the Falcons with one out and Champ on third base. Miller put down a beautiful bunt and Champ went on contact. Champ would beat the throw to cap off the comeback, winning the game 7-6.

In this series both teams are battling for higher positioning in the KCAC standings. Friends winning today should give them tons of momentum going into the doubleheader tomorrow. Friends will host Tabor back at West Side Athletic Field at noon for game one. Game two will follow shortly after on Saturday (Mar. 28)
