LIBERTY, Mo. — The Friends University Women's Tennis Falcons shutout the Avila University Eagles 7-0 yesterday (Mar. 16), with the Falcon Men winning 6-1 to complete the sweep at the Clayview Country Club in Liberty, Mo.

In the women's match, the Falcons secured all three doubles matches and swept the singles competition to complete the victory.

Friends secured the doubles point with decisive victories on courts one and two. Silva Avakian and Carlotta Klee claimed a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Avila's Dani Jean-Louis and Emma Koenigseder. Meanwhile, Aneth Diaz and Sydney Rodriguez delivered a dominant 6-0 result at No. 2 doubles against Alaeyah Chleborad and Juliette Titalangha to put the Falcons ahead early.

In singles play, the Falcons continued their strong performance, beginning with Avakian's straight-sets victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Jean-Louis 6-0, 6-0. Diaz further extended the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Koenigseder. The remaining singles matches did not affect the outcome as the Falcons had already clinched the match. 

The Men's Falcons secured wins in five of the six singles matches and claimed victory in two of the three doubles matches.

Friends claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Gabriel Gomes and Cristobal Fuentes secured a 6-2 win against Axel Scott and Daniel Lozano on court one, while Trey Lacy and Seth Ogden matched that success with a 6-2 result over Ben Drinkwater and Brendan Honn at No. 3 doubles. Avila picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as Hayden Carrillo and Tristan Houchin defeated Yves Ikuno and Rodrigo Torres, 6-4.

In singles, the Falcons extended their lead with strong performances, starting at No. 1 singles where Fuentes defeated Scott in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Gomes followed with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, overcoming Lozano 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Torres added another point for Friends with a straight-sets win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over Houchin.

Avila's sole singles point came at No. 4 singles where Carrillo defeated Lacy, 6-2, 6-4. Friends quickly countered as Yves Ikuno secured a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against Honn. Jacob Bush completed the singles competition with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Drinkwater at No. 6 singles, sealing the 6-1 overall win for the Falcons.

The Falcon tennis squads will next play at Texas Wesleyan University on Thursday afternoon (Mar. 19).
