KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Friends University Falcons opened KCAC play with setbacks of 3-0 and 4-0 today (Mar. 14) at the Avila University Eagles in Kansas City, Mo.
McKayla Cotton dominated the Falcons in the first game, holding them hitless with seven strikeouts and just one walk.
Jenna Ormiston started for Friends and was solid, allowing three runs with a pair of strikeouts and two walks over six innings.
Cotton also helped herself with an RBI single in the first inning for the first run of the game. An RBI single by Abi Beaman then finished a two-run third.
Ezra Arredondo was effective for the Falcons in the nightcap, lasting 5.1 innings with one earned run allowed and four strikeouts against one walk.
The Eagles plated two unearned runs in the fifth before an RBI double by Beaman and a run-scoring single from Cotton in the sixth put it away.
Cotton then pitched the final two innings to pick up the save in support of starter Faith Heaster, who tossed five scoreless frames to get the win.
The Falcons managed three hits in the second game, including doubles from Cambell Riordan and Arrendondo.
Friends will next host (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University on Wednesday (Mar. 18) for two games starting at 3 pm at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
