WICHITA, Kan. — The No. 22-ranked Friends University Falcons fell to the Sterling College Lady Warriors 58-46 in a league matchup this evening (Feb. 11) inside the Garvey Center. Friends is now 20- 5 overall and 14-5 in the KCAC, one game behind Bethel College for the second spot in the league.
The Falcons trailed most of the way, last leading 18-16 at the 8:03 mark of the second quarter. Sterling scored the next five points to lead by three and then built the edge up to seven at 27-20 on a score by Nevaeh Johnson.
A three by
Lauryn McIver and a bucket from
Abigail Barr helped the Falcons close within 27-25 at the break.
The Lady Warriors maintained the lead throughout the third period and pushed ahead 41-35 heading into the fourth.
Sterling then broke things open as Kali Briar scored five points to key an 11-0 run to open the final quarter and give the Lady Warriors a commanding 52-35 lead.
From that point, the Lady Warriors stayed in command, with the final 12-point margin representing the closest the Falcons would climb the rest of the way.
The Falcons outrebounded the Braves 48-36, marking the first time they've lost all year when leading in rebounding. But Friends was hurt by 23 turnovers that led to Sterling holding a 17-8 edge in points off turnovers.
Friends will continue their three-game homestand and celebrate Senior Day Saturday (Feb. 14) vs. McPherson College. Tip-off inside the Garvey Center is set for 3 pm.
