Wichita, Kan. - Friends University men's soccer continued its strong start to KCAC play Saturday night (Oct. 3), earning a 2-0 shutout victory over York University at Adair-Austin Stadium. The Falcons scored twice in the first half and held the Panthers scoreless to secure their fifth consecutive conference victory.
Friends broke through in the 29th minute when Ben Scognamillo converted a penalty kick giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. The goal came after York was issued a yellow card to Asaph Achero in the 28th minute.
The Falcons added to their advantage just before halftime. Diego Marin found the back of the net at 44:54, with Jose Quiel providing the assist out of the corner to give Friends a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
Friends' defense took care of the rest, keeping York off the scoreboard throughout the second half. Goalkeeper Cameron Stout played all 90 minutes and recorded the shutout as the Panthers finished without a shot on goal.
The Falcons finished with six shots, including three on target, while York also recorded six shots but failed to put any on frame. Both teams finished with three corner kicks, while Friends was whistled for 14 fouls compared to eight for York.
With the win, Friends improves to 7-2-1 overall and 5-0 in KCAC play. The Falcons have not given up a goal in 465 minutes of play with their outstanding defense. The spectacular defense leads to the aggressive offense and that is why the Falcons have had such a great run in conference play.
Up next the Falcons travel to Bartlesville, Okla., on Wednesday (Oct. 7), to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Kickoff time is to be announced.
