WICHITA, Kan. — Friends University Women's Soccer handed the Avila University Eagles their first KCAC conference loss of the season today (Oct. 14), shutting out the Eagles 2-0.
Due to expected heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, the match was moved to the indoor field at the Stryker Sports Complex, but the change of venue didn't slow the Falcons down. Friends scored once in each half while holding Avila scoreless. The Falcons finished with a 20-7 advantage in shots, including 10 shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Martinez played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves to secure the shutout as Friends claimed the 2-0 victory.
Kieley Aranda led the Falcons with two goals, with
Yaretzy Tejeda recording an assist on Aranda's second goal. Aranda finished with three shots, putting all three on target.
Anahi Ibarra-Arevalo led Friends with six shots, including five on goal.
Shae Sweeney recorded eight saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal for Avila. Tatum Bresette led the Eagles with two shots, putting both on goal.
With the victory, the Falcons are now 6-1 in KCAC play and 8-3-1 overall. Friends will be back at home on Saturday (Oct. 17) for a matchup with the Bethel College Threshers. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. in Adair-Austin Stadium.
