Wichita, Kan. — Friends University baseball opened the 2026 season with a doubleheader sweep over Oklahoma City University Jan. 22, winning by scores of 5-2 and 4-2. The Falcons begin the season 2-0, the same start they had a year ago.
Game One
In game one, the Falcons got off to a fast start. In the first inning, the 1-2 hitters reached base. With runners on second and third following a wild pitch, catcher Colton Flores drove a single up the middle to bring in two runs. Designated hitter Holden Sabor followed with a two-out RBI single, giving Friends a 3-0 lead after the opening inning.
Junior Raleigh Clark earned the start on the mound for Friends and pitched efficiently in his Falcon debut. Clark threw 71 pitches over five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out three. He induced plenty of weak contact, allowing his defense to make routine plays.
Oklahoma City responded in the fourth inning with two runs, cutting the Friends lead to 4-2. However, in the bottom half of the inning, RF Bernie Socarras delivered an RBI single to push the Falcons' advantage back to three runs.
Hoyt Roff recorded the save, throwing just nine pitches and striking out one batter to secure the 5–2 victory — the Falcons' first win of the season.
Game Two
Friends fell behind early in game two, trailing 1-0 before Colton Flores once again delivered an RBI single to tie the game in the third inning. Shortly after, Elijah Joseph hit an RBI ground-rule double to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead after three innings.
The Stars tied the contest in the sixth inning, evening the score at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the frame. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, leadoff hitter Miles Hartman chopped a ball past the first baseman's glove, driving in two runs to give Friends a 4-2 advantage.
Roff entered for another save opportunity and retired the side in order in the seventh inning. He earned both saves on the day as the Falcons completed the doubleheader sweep and improved to 2-0 on the season.
Friends baseball will travel to Chickasha, Okla., for a three-game series against the University of Science and Arts (Okla.). Games will be played Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31.
