WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University guard Lauryn McIver reached 1,000 career points Saturday (Jan. 10) at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, but it was her contributions on the defensive end that's being recognized today as she's been named the KCAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, announced today (Jan. 12) by the conference office.
In addition to her spectacular offensive output, McIver was a force on the perimeter defensively, averaging 8.5 defensive rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 blocks in two victories that extended the (RV) Falcons winning streak to 11 games.
McIver's week featured three steals in both games at Sterling College and Oklahoma Wesleyan along with a career-high five blocks at OKWU.
A native of Phoenix, Ariz., McIver is averaging 5.5 defensive boards, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks on the season.
"Lauryn had a great week," said Friends women's basketball head coach Dean Jaderston. "She had to step up with some players working through injuries and her ability to impact the game at both ends was a major factor in our two wins. She continues to make big defensive plays at the right minute and her activity on the boards has been a big factor in our success."
McIver and the 15-1 Falcons will conclude their three-game road trip on Wednesday (Jan. 14) at Southwestern College. Tip-off will be at 6 pm in Winfield, Kan.
