WICHITA, Kan. - The Friends University Men's Soccer Falcons started the regular season tonight (Aug. 21) at Adair-Austin Stadium against the Benedictine College Ravens. It turned out to be a physical game that resulted in a 3-1 loss for the Falcons.

Benedictine's Goalkeeper, Hernan Burdiles, made two spectacular saves to set the tone of the game early. In the 27th minute Feliipe Vargas opened the scoring with an assist from Kody Argaez to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.

That would be all for the first half as the Ravens would go into half up 1-0 in the season opener.

The Ravens kept the pressure on out of the half as Fabian Viquez upped the score to 2-0 in the 58th minute.

The Falcons did not give up however. In the 68th minute Felipe Calderaro gave a beautiful cross to Emilio Gutierrez for a header into the back of the net. That gave the Falcons some energy to make an early season comeback and trimmed the deficit to 2-1.

The final goal of the game was scored in the 83rd minute by Argaez who once again filled the statsheet.

Friends showed their physicality in their season opener in front of their home fans, but came up just short to begin the year.

The next game for the Falcons will be at 3:00 pm CT on August 30th against Midland University in Fremont, Neb.
