McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College Bulldogs swept the Friends University Falcons by scores of 9-4 and 10-2 today (Apr. 18) in McPherson, Kan. to win the series. The Falcons are still in fourth in the KCAC at 19-15 in the league and are now 25-20 overall.
The opener saw the Falcons battle back from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 4-2 lead on a two-run single by Miles Hartman in the fifth.
But the final seven runs of the game belonged to the Bulldogs, starting with a three-run homer by Peyton Starr in the fifth that put McPherson up for good.
That started a six-run decisive frame by McPherson that also included a two-run blast from Marcus Burton.
Niquan Benjamin had three hits and an RBI single in the second inning, with Dominic Arellano, Tyler Godrey, Nijai Armbrister and Hartman recording two hits.
Jace Essig and Marcus Patton each had three hits in the first game for the Bulldogs.
The Falcons also got a scoreless inning of relief from both Chance Baker and Vincent Vigil.
McPherson again got going in the fifth inning of the nightcap, getting an RBI single by Dawson Walters to cap a three-run frame and snap a 1-1 tie before a two-run double from Koen Gakstatter sparked a six-run sixth inning that put it away.
Starr and Carlos Rodriguez exchanged solo homers in the first and second innings that resulted in the 1-1 gridlock.
Isaias Urriola hit an RBI single in the seventh to close out the scoring for the Falcons.
Daniel Norris struck out seven and walked none with two runs allowed over seven innings to get the second game win for McPherson (23-22, 17-14 KCAC).
The Falcons and Bulldogs will conclude the series with a single game tomorrow (Apr. 19) at noon.
