Box Score 2 WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons completed a doubleheader sweep of the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in convincing fashion, winning both games by a combined score of 30-4 today (Mar. 8) at Westside Athletic Field. The Falcons won the first game 19-1 and then the second game 11-3.
In the opening tilt, it was Carlos Rodriguez getting the Falcons going with his third homer of the series, a three-run blast in the first inning.
The Falcons then busted things wide open with an eight-run third behind a two-run double by Isaias Urriola and a three-run double from Miles Hartman. An RBI single by Nijai Armbrister finished the third frame and the Falcons then got run-scoring singles from Urriola and Spencer Davidson in the fifth and an RBI single by pinch hitter Xavier Champ in the sixth to put a bow on the resounding victory.
Hartman and Urriola each had three hits and Armbrister went 2-of-2 in the first game win for Friends. Champ and Bernie Socarras both crossed the plate three times.
Jaime Baldwin got a couple of double plays to escape early trouble and proceeded to pitch a complete game with one run allowed and five strikeouts to get the win.
The nightcap saw Rodriguez again get the Falcons off to a hot start with a two-run single in the first inning. Urriola then singled in Champ before scoring on a two-run single by Bryson Rigsby to cap a six-run frame.
It was then Zeke Henson's time to take over, hitting a pair of two-run homers in the second and the sixth to put an emphatic final statement on the Falcons' series sweep.
Francisco Moscoso also went the distance in the second game, striking out four with one walk and three runs allowed in a winning effort on the mound.
"Really happy for the guys, it's been a tough couple of weeks so it was good to get things going at home," said Friends baseball head coach Adam Neisius. "Two complete games on the mound were huge with the schedule we've got coming up this week. Hopefully we can ride the momentum into Tuesday."
Henson went 3-of-4 with the two homers and Socarras walked three times and scored three runs for the Falcons (9-12, 4-7 KCAC). Rodriguez drove in three runs, while Hartman and Davidson each had two hits.
For Southwestern (3-11, 1-8 KCAC), Raisean Dorsey went 2-of-3 and Keoua Sibayan hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the seventh.
The Falcons will next host Evangel University for another conference twinbill Tuesday (Mar. 11) starting at noon.
