Baseball Falcons throttle Swedes 12-0 in series opener

Lindsborg, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons resoundingly defeated the Bethany College Swedes 12-0 in seven innings in the series opener today (Mar. 14) in Lindsborg, Kan. The Falcons have now won six straight games and have evened their conference record at 7-7 and are also .500 overall at 12-12.

An RBI single by Isaias Urriola began the scoring in the first inning before the flood gates opened with an eight-run second frame by the Falcons.

Niquan Benjamin, Carlos Rodriguez and Nijai Armbrister each had RBI singles in the inning, while Zeke Henson and Urriola each drew bases-loaded walks. Dominic Arellano then hit a sacrifice fly to cap the explosion and put the Falcons up 9-0.

Spencer Davidson, Rodriguez and Urriola were then each hit by a pitch to finish off the big win for the Falcons.

Cameron Chase turned in the best start of his career for Friends, blanking the Swedes on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks across a seven-inning complete game.

Benjamin had three hits from the leadoff spot for the Falcons, with Urriola driving in three runs on two hits. Henson, Rodriguez and Bernie Socarras also registered two hits.

The Falcons and Swedes will play a twinbill tomorrow (Mar. 15) at noon to wrap up the series.
