Falcons Complete Sweep in Conference Opener

Wichita, Kan. - Friends edged out Ottawa University in game one, a thrilling 7-6 victory, powered by a strong late game surge. The Falcons put together a extra inning performance, scoring three runs in the bottom of the 8th to seal the win.

Pitcher Riley Wertz  delivered a record breaking performance in the circle, going the distance with eight innings pitched, striking out 19 batters, a modern era school record, an add on after being named KCAC Pitcher of the Week this Monday. The Friends' offense backed her, including a home run by Priscilla Mora and doubles from Cadence Magana and Tamara Lozoya.

Teagan Moreno sparked the lineup, driving in two runs on a 2 for 4 night. Elena Montoya, Cadence Magana, Tamara Lozoya, and Riley Wertz also chipped in with RBIs, showcasing the depth of the Falcons' offense.

Despite Ottawa's efforts, including a two-homer performance from Katie Enneking, the Braves couldn't hold off the Falcons' late rally. Cezara Roque took the loss, allowing seven runs over 7.2 innings.

In game two the Falcons completed the sweep over Ottawa with a 10-8 victory, riding a powerful offensive display that saw three home runs from Cadence Magana, Priscilla Mora, and Becca Dunn (2 HRs).

Dunn was a force at the plate, driving in three runs while going 3 for 4. Mora and Magana also tallied three RBIs each, helping the Falcons erase an early deficit and take control of the game.

On the mound, Kierstan Weitze  picked up the win, throwing 3.2 innings in relief, allowing two runs while striking out four. Jenna Ormiston started the game, battling through 3.1 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits.

Ottawa fought hard, led by Macy Rowver's three RBIs and a home run. Mallory Dunn and Kara Hafenstine each added doubles to the Braves' offensive attack, but their pitching struggled to contain the Falcons' bats.

Friends University improved to 12-6, now 2-0 in conference play, with the next matchup being Bethel College on Saturday, March 15th.
