Baseball Falcons fall late twice at No. 12 Kansas Wesleyan

Salina, Kan. – The No. 12-ranked Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes came back late to win a pair of 4-3 games over the Friends University Falcons in KCAC action today (Mar. 1) in Salina, Kan.

The first game sequence saw Carter Allen double home the tying run and then score the eventual winning tally on a single by Chase Aurand in the seventh.

Hunter Blea then kept the Falcons off the board the next two innings to pick up his second save of the series.

Zeke Henson had helped the Falcons take leads of 1-0 and 2-1 with a sacrifice fly in the first and then an RBI double in the sixth.

After a pinch-hit RBI single by Jesse Conrad tied the score in the bottom of the sixth, Miles Hartman scored on a groundout by Nijai Armbrister in the seventh to put the Falcons back in front.

Bernie Socarras went 2-of-4 in the first game for the Falcons, with Alex Garcia recording two hits for KWU and Tyler Favretto homering in the fifth.

Jaime Baldwin started and pitched 5.1 innings for the Falcons, giving up two earned runs with one strikeout and four walks. Nathan Righi went six innings and struck out four while also giving up two runs over six innings for KWU.

In the nightcap, Carlos Rodriguez, Miles Hartman and Bryson Rigsby each drove in a run to help the Falcons gain a 3-1 lead.

But the Coyotes got an unearned run in the fifth and then tied the score when Joe Finder hit a solo homer in the sixth.

It stayed 3-3 until the Coyotes (12-8, 7-2 KCAC) got three singles to begin the ninth, culminating with a walk-off hit by Garrett Garfield.

The Falcons (6-11, 1-7 KCAC) got three hits apiece from Henson and Rigsby in the second game.

Francisco Moscoso turned in a solid start for Friends, going five innings with one earned run allowed, striking out six and walking three.

Friends is next scheduled to host No. 13-ranked Mid-America Christian University Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 4) at 3 pm at West Side Athletic Field.
