WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University first baseman Becca Dunn homered three times to power the Friends University Falcons to a sweep of the MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers by scores of 7-2 and 10-2 yesterday (Feb. 25) at Two Rivers Youth Complex. The wins give the Falcons four straight victories overall and runs their record to 4-2 on the season.
Dunn's first hit wasn't a homer but an RBI double that plated Izzy Jones in the bottom of the first to make it 1-1.
The big blow of the game came shortly after when Jayden Estabrook unloaded a grand slam to finish off a six-run first frame.
Dunn then hit a solo homer in the third for what proved to be a harbinger of things to come in the second tilt.
Jones finished the opening game 3-3 at the plate and Riley Wertz was solid in the circle, striking out seven with two runs allowed in a winning effort.
Alli VanLanker had two hits for the Pioneers from the leadoff spot.
Dunn then picked right back up with her power stroke in the nightcap, blasting a three-run homer before Cadence Magana also hit a three-run shot for her first career homer in a seven-run first inning explosion for the Falcons.
After RBI singles by Maddie Brooks in the second and fourth innings put the Pioneers on the board, Dunn struck again with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth and Tamara Lozoya then singled home Priscilla Mora in the sixth to end the game on the run-rule.
Dunn had three hits overall in the second game, just missing her third home run of the game when a hit glanced off the fence for a long single in the sixth. Jones kept up her hot hitting with two more hits in the nightcap, with Magana and Alex Vick also recording two hits for Friends.
Jenna Ormiston started for the Falcons and lasted the full six innings, striking out five and giving up one earned run to pick up the victory.
The Falcons will now gear up to host their annual Friends University Invitational this weekend (Mar. 1-2).
