Deng named KCAC Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University junior forward Ring Deng has been selected as the KCAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today (Feb. 17). All KCAC Player of the Week awards are sponsored by Equity Bank.

Deng produced 5.5 defensive rebounds, two steals and one block per game in two victories this past week for the Falcons that resulted in the program's first 20-win season since 2018-19.

A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Deng spread out his defensive production, recording eight defensive boards in the Falcons' 75-62 win at Sterling College before a three steal and two block performance to fuel a 79-76 victory at McPherson College.

Deng now leads the Falcons with 1.5 steals per game this season.

"Ring has been an anchor for our defense all year both in the post and on the perimeter," said Friends men's basketball head coach Phil McClintock. "He affects the game in many ways but most of all his effort and energy on the defensive end are always consistent."

Deng and the Falcons will stay on the road and play at Southwestern College Wednesday night (Feb. 19) at 8 pm in Winfield, Kan. for their final regular season road game of the 2024-25 season. Friends will then wrap up the regular season at home for Senior Day on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 5 pm vs. Bethany College inside the Garvey Center.
