Barr’s game-winner lifts (RV) Women’s Basketball Falcons to 64-62 win at Kansas Wesleyan for best 10-game start since 2007-08

Salina, Kan. – Abigail Barr scored with 3.1 seconds remaining to snap the 11th tie of the game and give the (RV) Friends University Falcons a 64-62 victory over the defending KCAC regular season champion Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes today (Dec. 6) in Salina, Kan. The Falcons are now 9-1 on the season, marking the program's best 10-game start since 2007-08.

Following Barr's go-ahead bucket, a shot by Jocelyn Hall came up just short at the buzzer as the Falcons held on for the win.

The Falcons trailed by as many as eight but rebounded to lead by six on a three-point play by Rayland Garner that made it 54-48 with 9:11 left in the game.

But KWU responded with five straight points from Madison Lambert that sparked an 11-1 spurt that put the Coyotes back in front by four at the 4:32 mark.

Heaven Gilbert then scored and Katie Weiss hit a three to turn the tide and put the Falcons on top 60-59.

When the Coyotes had their eight point lead in the second quarter, 10 straight points gave Friends a 27-25 edge.

KWU later got a three by Anna Jueneman to lead by one 30-29 at the break.

Garner, the KCAC's leading scorer, led the Falcons (9-1, 4-1 KCAC) with 20 points and seven rebounds, with Barr finishing with 13. Lauryn McIver posted a stat line of eight points, four rebounds and a game-high seven assists.

Jueneman paced the Coyotes (5-4, 3-2 KCAC) with 19 points and six boards.

Friends held slim advantages of 37-35 in rebounding and 13-11 on the offensive glass.

The Falcons will next return to the Garvey Center and host Tabor College Wednesday evening (Dec. 10) at 6 pm.
