McPherson, Kan. – The (RV) Friends University Falcons won for the seventh straight time 91-62 at the McPherson College Bulldogs in KCAC action today (Dec. 13) in McPherson, Kan. The Falcons are now 11-1 overall and in third place in the KCAC at 6-1, one game behind Evangel University and Sterling College.
The Falcons never trailed from the 6:19 mark of the first quarter after a layup from Lauryn McIver made it 7-6.
Friends continued to stretch the lead and used a 12-4 spurt to end the first quarter to take a 25-15 edge.
The second quarter was more of the same, as the Falcons held the Bulldogs to just two points for more than five minutes and built the lead up to 36-17 on a putback from McIver.
Katie Weiss then hit a three to extend to a 43-19 lead before nailing another from long distance to make it 51-28 at the break.
The third quarter saw the Falcons lead by as many as 27 and the Bulldogs cut the deficit down to 18 before two free throws from Rayland Garner and Raegan Bugaj pushed the Friends lead back to 70-48 heading to the fourth.
The Falcons surged to begin the fourth period, as a three by Bugaj capped a 9-2 push to create the biggest margin to that point of 79-52.
Friends was never threatened in the fourth and obtained its largest lead of the game on two free throws from Zuzana Pechova that made it 91-59 with 2:37 left.
Garner led four Falcons in double-figures with 21 points, with Abigail Barr delivering 18 points and McIver scoring 16 with six assists and three steals. Weiss chipped in with 11 points.
Maizen Gillam paced the Bulldogs (5-7, 1-6 KCAC) with 16 points and Gillian Rodgers scored 15.
The Falcons shot 45.2 percent (33-of-73) from the floor while stifling the Bulldogs into just a 31.8 percent (21-of-66) shooting clip.
Friends will now take time off for Christmas Break before resuming action on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31) at (RV) Columbia College at 1 pm in Columbia, Mo.
