WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 4-ranked Friends University Falcons learned tonight (Nov. 22) that the No. 13 seed William Penn University Statesmen will be their opponent for an NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) second round game next Saturday (Nov. 29) in Wichita. Kickoff will be at 1 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
William Penn advanced to the second round with a 38-9 win over No. 20 Texas Wesleyan University earlier today behind 192 rushing yards and four touchdowns from Destynd Loring.
The Statesmen are 11-1 overall and went 5-1 in the Heart of America North Division, with its only setback coming 41-9 to No. 1-ranked and defending NAIA National Champion Grand View University on Oct. 4.
Friends went 11-0 overall and 5-0 in the KCAC Bissell Division this season to win its second consecutive conference championship and make its second straight NAIA FCS appearance. Last year, the Falcons won 47-35 over OUAZ for their first-ever playoff victory before being tripped 21-17 in the second round to eventual national champion Grand View.
