Women’s Basketball Falcons win 81-72 at Haskell to improve to 4-0 for first time in 15 years

Lawrence, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons ran their record to 4-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season with an 81-72 victory at Haskell Indian Nations University this evening (Nov. 11) in Lawrence, Kan.

With the game tied 27-27 at the midway point of the second quarter, threes by KK Peeler and Katie Weiss helped the Falcons take a 34-31 lead into the locker room.

Haskell twice cut the lead to one in the third, but five points from Weiss sparked an 11-0 spurt that expanded the lead to 12 and the Falcons led 53-43 heading to the fourth quarter.

Consecutive buckets by Abigail Barr then pushed the edge to 14 for the Falcons just over a minute into the fourth.

Haskell came within single-digits multiple times in the final period, with the last occasion coming on a layup by Allie Greene that made it 66-57 at the 4:44 mark.

But the Falcons pulled away for good from that point as back-to-back layups by Rayland Garner capped a 15-6 spurt that created the largest lead of the night for Friends with 1:46 left.

Weiss fueled the Falcons with career-high numbers of 17 points and six threes. Garner also scored 17 with six steals (one shy of career-high), five rebounds and four assists.  Barr had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Lauryn McIver filled the stat sheet with 10 points, six boards and six assists.

Tierzah Penn led Haskell (4-4) with 19 points and Ivy Fox scored 18. Greene also added 18 points, with Angela Astorga pacing Haskell with eight rebounds and six assists.

The Falcons hounded Haskell on the perimeter throughout, as Peeler had five steals and Jadyn Glasgow recorded three thefts in addition to Garner's six steals.
